Cranmer apartment
This centrally located Gothic building is a beautiful and treasured heritage building overlooking a landscaped park. It previously housed a restaurant and our brief was to turn it from a commercial space to a residential dwelling. We decided on a minimalist theme, drawing on inspiration from John Pawson’s work. This enabled sleek, modern lines without detracting from the orginal architecture, which included an octagonal mail area with 11-metre high vaulted ceilings, old stone masonry and stained glass windows. In order to allow the vast octagonal room a functioning living space, we installed a plaster dado extending up the walls to provide a gallery space for the client’s art collection and to conceal lighting to illuminate the stonework.
